New York (July 20, 2020) The Frick Collection announced today that it will reopen to the public in early 2021 in the former site of the Whitney Museum of American Art at 945 Madison Avenue. The Fricks holdings, attendance, and public and educational programs have grown appreciably in the past decades, and many of the institutions critical functions from the presentation, care, and conservation of its collections, to education programs and basic visitor services are constrained and retrofitted into inadequate spaces in the century-old former residence. Following the withdrawal of the 2014 design proposal and a subsequent period of extensive study, Frick leadership has developed a new approach to upgrading and expanding its facilities that enhances opportunities for intimate engagement with great works of art and preserves the Fricks gardens. Among the artists Frick collected were Bellini, Holbein, Houdon, Fragonard, Manet, Renoir, Rembrandt, Titian, Turner, Velzquez, Vermeer, and Whistler.
